Between 29 October - 5 November 2024, Cultural Compass: Navigating Diversity Through Communication project was an important milestone to explore cultural diversity and strengthen intercultural communication as youth workers. This project in Spain not only provided the participants with new skills, but also a great opportunity to promote inter-communal understanding and tolerance.
The project helped the participants to explore their cultural identity, understand the values of different societies and become more open-minded individuals on a global level. Through an in-depth study of their own culture, participants learnt to empathise with other cultures and develop a more sensitive approach to stereotypes.
Various group work, discussions and interactive activities during the project helped the participants to become more effective in intercultural communication. Participants discovered ways to overcome barriers such as language barriers and prejudices, while at the same time developing more respectful and open methods of communication. This process was a big step not only in terms of professional development but also in terms of personal development.
The project also aims to celebrate the richness of cultural diversity and show how this diversity can build a strong bond between communities. Participants realised that prejudices and stereotypes are major barriers that prevent communities from uniting and looked for ways to overcome these barriers.
Why is it important?
Today, it is more important than ever to strengthen understanding and co-operation between communities. In our globalised world, intercultural dialogue and respect have become essential elements for creating a healthy and peaceful society.
Through the project, participants not only gained an understanding of different cultures, but also realised how diversity, when brought together, creates richness. Such projects are an important tool to make societies more just, equitable and inclusive.
As Poland Equal Rights Association, it is a great honour for us to participate in such projects and contribute to social change. We would like to thank the participants and everyone who contributed to the project. Together, we are moving towards a more equal and tolerant future.
